An Uncertain Romance Just in Time for Valentine’s Day

…By Clayton J. Blair

Ben Hall and Stacey Logan

CityRep continues their 16th season with the regional premiere of the 2017 Tony Award® nominated play “Heisenberg”, starring Oklahoma City’s own Broadway leading lady Stacey Logan and longtime local favorite Ben Hall.

Aboard a modern London train station, a man stands quietly lost in thought and a woman, a total stranger to him and 20 years his junior, comes up and kisses him on the back of the neck.  All of this happens before the show even begins….Intrigued?  Where will this unlikely meeting of these two distinctly different people lead?

As opposed to a traditional rom-com where the trajectory is clear, the trajectory in “Heisenberg” is quite uncertain.  “You can’t hide behind this play”, says Logan, “There are no set pieces, no glitter”.  Hall states “The reality is that between two people things are not certain, and that is only heightened by the characters in this show”.

Donald Jordan, CityRep’s Founding Artistic Director calls this show, “A lyrical, beautifully expressive, charming, and romantic play that keeps the audience and actors alike on their toes.”

Just like Werner Heisenberg‘s theory of uncertainty, “there [are] details and the big picture, and you don’t get either of those at the same time”, says Ruth Charnay, “Heisenberg”s director.

The play is staged in the charming and intimate CitySpace theatre, and like the Tony-nominated Broadway production, with a minimal set, dependent on the actors to tell the story. Featuring only two tables, two chairs, and two actors, the six scenes produce a life-affirming story. There is no intermission to the show, and the play runs a brisk 1 hour and 20 minutes. Perfect for a date night in the Valentine season.

Heisenberg” will be presented February 2nd-11th, in the CitySpace Theatre at The Civic Center Music Hall located at 201 N Walker Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
