The Pollard’s Dracula is a creepy night of Screams and Scares

Dracula is presented via a live read-through.

The Pollard Theatre Company has faced its fair share of setbacks in the past year. The pandemic forced the closure of the 2020 season, and the historic theatre finally reopened for Season 34, In Good Company, in August 2021. A late summer storm caused extensive damage to the lighting and sound systems in the theatre, and the company was once again forced to cancel an upcoming production. Bram Stoker’s Dracula was slated for a full production, but with the theatre still in repair mode, an alternative option had to be utilized. Always the… Continue reading

A Theatre Reviewer Rambles: Meet Adrienne!

Hello! I’m Adrienne, the Managing Director of Oklahoma Art Scene and Hurd. I just graduated with a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Administration & Logistics from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant. It has NOTHING to do with theatre, but it’s helped me in all aspects of my writing! I started with Scene and Hurd in 2017. The first show I reviewed was a directed reading of “Bathrobe Club” by Adam Davies. The first full production I reviewed was Sam Shepard’s Ages of the Moon at Carpenter Square Theatre, and it’s still one of my favorites!… Continue reading

It’s a Wonderful Life is a Unique Holiday Experience at The Pollard

Joshua McGowen, Kara Chapman, and Jared Blount (Foley artist) in It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

Christmas is a busy time for theatres. Everyone seems to get into a Dickens-y spirit this time of year, with ghosts and Humbugs in every theatrical production you can find. A welcome break from tired traditions is It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. This production heralds back to the days of yesteryear, before iPads and streaming services flooded our airwaves, and brainwaves, at a constant, break-neck pace. Radio plays featured casts reading scripts over the air, breaking for commercials… Continue reading

The Pollard’s Evil Dead is Bloody Great!

Evil Dead

Wil Rogers and Megan Montgomery in The Pollard’s Evil Dead: The Musical.

Evil Dead: The Musical is a bloody, gory, funny, grotesque, absurd, ridiculous thrill of a parody and it’s great fun for theatre-goers. The Pollard Theatre brings it back by popular demand after a sold-out run five years ago. This go-round is exceptionally directed by Pollard company member Jared Blount, who’s not afraid to bring the gore directly to the audience. Evil Dead follows a group of five college kids on a Spring Break trip, in an abandoned cabin, in a dark and mysterious wood. What could go… Continue reading

The Pollard Resurrects Evil Dead

Evil Dead

Wil Rogers and Megan Montgomery in The Pollard’s Evil Dead: The Musical.

Five years after its original run, The Pollard Theatre company is bringing back one of their most popular shows to date. Evil Dead: The Musical returns in a new Halloween tradition for The Pollard, complete with their wildly popular Splatter Zone. It’s just as crazy and messy as it sounds. No one is safe from splattering, albeit theatrical, blood in the Splatter Zone. Those on the outskirts, in the buffer zone and regular seats, are somewhat safer, but no guarantees. Regardless of where you sit or how splattered… Continue reading

The Pollard’s In for a DISASTER!

The cast of The Pollard’s DISASTER! Photo by James Michael Avance.

What a Disaster! The Pollard closes out their 32nd season with one wild boat ride. Inspired by the 1970s natural disaster movies and the music of the disco era, Disaster! is a funny, low-brow comedy romp for (almost) all ages. The casino cruise ship where the chaos plays out rocks with hits of the 70s. Soon it rumbles and shakes as an earthquake wreaks havoc and sets off a cascade of impending doom. Killer tides, infernos, gas leaks, rats and sharks all threaten the evening and everyone… Continue reading

Downtown Guthrie this June is looking to be quite troubling. The Pollard Theatre’s upcoming production of Disaster!, written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick, pays tribute to the great music and stylized catastrophe movies of the 1970s. It includes a large cast full of comedic greats in the local theatre scene, and features some of the best music money can buy. Two of the production’s stars, Emily Pace and Matthew Alvin Brown, sat down with me… Continue reading
