This weekend Music Theatre International presents All Together Now! a global event celebrating local theatre all across 50 states and 40 countries with over 2,500 participants including Kismet Arts Studio & Theatre. The program is designed for theatres as a fundraising event to reintroduce live performing arts to audiences who have suffered in front of the television for over two years!

The Pollard Theatre Company has faced its fair share of setbacks in the past year. The pandemic forced the closure of the 2020 season, and the historic theatre finally reopened for Season 34, In Good Company, in August 2021. A late summer storm caused extensive damage to the lighting and sound systems in the theatre, and the company was once again forced to cancel an upcoming production. Mia McCullough is a talented playwright with many awards to her name. Her play titled “Chagrin Falls” is currently being presented at 3rd Act Theatre in Oklahoma City. Amandanell Bold directs a cast of four men and two women. The action takes place in the small Oklahoma town, Chagrin Falls, named for a four-foot cascade outside of town. UCO’s College of Fine Arts and Design (CFAD) and the Musical Theatre Division present Jonathan Larson’s Rent, running until October 10th at Mitchell Hall Theatre. UCO’s Musical Theatre program is one of the best in the state. They produce big, bold works, and never shy away from tough subjects. The final production of this ensemble play is written by a “wild and crazy guy,” Steve Martin. Martin is a television/film actor as well as a writer and Meteor Shower is about a true scientific event . I mention this mixed media performance because the story told by this energetic cast of 4 seemed like a tv show and at times a comedy play.

Jewel Box Theatre- “A Good old fashioned mystery” for their new venue.
I was out wandering around (in my air-conditioned car, of course) and saw a line of cars filing into what used to be Jewel Box Theatre’s old home but instead, they were driving down a slightly different road (I followed the many signs along the road) to what appeared to be their NEW venue. I found myself curiously drawn into this building which advertised The Vultures, by Mark A. Ridge. Grease Scores BIG on Football Field Show!

I was driving around the other night trying to stay cool in my air-conditioned car. Being curious, when I saw a crowd gathering at Bishop McGuiness’ High School football stadium, I pulled into the parking lot and noticed their field strewn with various large platforms with castors (wheels), colored stage lights and fifties/early sixties’ music coming from within. Turns out that Lyric Theatre was debuting their production of Grease, by Jim Jacobs & Warren Casey on the football field that evening.
