“One Man Star Wars Trilogy” Outstanding Comedy from Charles Ross at CityRep

Charles Ross has returned to Oklahoma City bringing the “Star Wars One Man Trilogy” as hoped, much to the joy of committed fans.  Thanks to Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre, Ross has been brought back after a four year absence when he performed “One Man Lord of the Rings Trilogy” for CityRep.  Charles Ross is from another planet himself (Canada) and he brings to this show superior delineated characters, subtle and slapstick humor and a love of all things star wars, starry and starry-eyed.  “Star Wars One Man Trilogy” was born about 16 years ago as a comedy routine using the first movie (fourth episode) and the response was so positive that Ross determined to combine his love of the Star Wars franchise with his work.  He expanded the show and “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” ultimately became part of the Lucasfilm family.  He has brought a great deal of joy to many audiences as he tells the story of the first three movies in great detail with wonderful sound effects and his soundtrack isn’t so bad either!  This requires a tremendous amount of energy, ability, dedication and scheduling.

Remember the trash compacter scene?  His re-enactment of that event is exact, exacting and, well, exactly!  The expression on his face is so real, that one imagines something alive did brush up against his leg!  Ross is a tall man and he easily brings Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Luke Skywalker to life, but he also brings Yoda to life in his own unique and hysterical way. Princess Leia is there, Darth Vader, C-3P0 and R2-D2 come to life just as easily and we have only scratched the surface.  Ross has a voice that can imitate others very realistically and one can hear the precise tones of Alec Guinness as Obi Wan Kenobi in the brief lines Ross delivers.  The Emperor’s cackle, the eerie death tones of Darth Vader, the bellow of Jabba the Hutt, the authoritarian General are all authentically reproduced.  One of the longest lasting impressions of the original “Star Wars” film is the bar scene and the very realistic atmosphere in attitudes that are displayed by the most bizarre intelligent creatures imaginable is not easily forgotten.  Seeing one human male bring back each of those characters visually as well as vocally and musically is phenomenal.

Ross will be performing “Star Wars One Man Trilogy” again on Thursday, June 15, at 7:30,  Friday, June 16 at 7:30, Saturday June 17 at a 1:30 Matinee and again at 7:30.  On Sunday, June 18, “One Man Star Wars Trilogy” is performed at the Matinee time of 1:30.  Originally there was to be a 2nd Sunday performance at 7:00, the twilight time, however that performance will not take place.  Instead—Sunday evening will now be a special performance of “ONE-MAN DARK KNIGHT: A Batman Parody” that is awesome.  That performance will take place on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm.  Happy Father’s Day! This is a great show.  All the proceeds for this performance will benefit CityRep and thank you to Charles Ross!
