Military Centric “A Few Good Men” Brings High Drama and Entertainment at The Pollard

Crystal Barby and Joshua McGowen in rehearsal for Pollard’s “A Few Good Men”

There’s no better place to see a show than the Pollard Theatre. In the heart of historic Guthrie, the Pollard makes for a lovely evening of theatre and is a hidden gem in the local art scene. Their stellar company is putting on a new classic with A Few Good Men. Well known as a movie, this original work by Aaron Sorkin was a Broadway play first, and audiences everywhere should see it in its intended form! Intense, gripping and dramatic, this play will be an edge of your seat event for all who attend. Military protocol, a court-martial, a murder trial, and action-packed drama are soon in store for Pollard audiences.

Directed by Linda McDonald and starring a mix of familiar faces from the Pollard Theatre Company, as well as several debuting artists, this show honors our men and women of the armed services. The close proximity to several military bases makes central Oklahoma a perfect location for this impassioned play.

Joshua McGowen stars as lawyer Daniel Kaffee, with James Hughes as Colonel Nathan R. Jessup, and Crystal Barby as Jo Galloway. The dynamic cast also includes Keegan Zimmerman as Sam Weinberg, Dakota Muckelrath as Harold Dawson, Ellie Valdez as Louden Downey, Timothy Stewart as Walter Stone and Sarah Henry as Jeffrey Howard. New and soon to be favorites to the Pollard Theatre stage are Timothy Welch as Jack Ross, Alison Chambers as Judge Randolph, Thor Bautz as Isaac Whitaker, Kevin Moore as Matthew Markinson, Derek Kenney as Jonathan James Kendrick, John Davis as William Santiago and Cam Taylor as Corporal Dunn.

This intense play is for mature audiences only, with some strong language and courtroom tension. Those who have little to no military experience will still appreciate the artistry of the performances. Sorkin is known for his character monologues, and many of the quotes made famous by the movie will be thrilling to hear on stage!

Sorkin’s screen writing credits include the Emmy award winning television show The West Wing, as well as the recent heist movie-thriller Molly’s Game. This play, originally from 1989, represents a powerful example of the current political climate. According to director McDonald, “The questions that made this play so well received almost 30 years ago are still pertinent today.” The Pollard Theatre Company never disappoints. This hard-telling, truth filled show will take audiences on a thrill ride from start to finish.
