THE BATHROBE CLUB is the mostly-true story of the remarkable friendship between Adam Davies, a once-successful novelist, and Bobby Zarem, the profane, rage-prone, pot-smoking madman who created the iconic “I Love New York” campaign—which saved Broadway, and maybe all of New York City, from bankruptcy.

After a personal tragedy derails his career, 30-something Adam is forced to move in with the 70-something Bobby. The good news: they are already best friends and have diabolically good times together. The bad news: they can also be dire enemies and living in the ramshackle mansion in Savannah, Georgia is, as Adam says, “like being in GREY GARDENS if directed by Mamet and set in the Thunderdome.”   When a mysterious young woman comes to visit, the house they share is thrown into chaos, bringing up terrible secrets from Adam’s past and reviving the specter of Bobby’s all-time greatest nemesis: the villain who tried to steal credit for creating “I Love New York.” By turns tender, brutal, funny, and tragic, THE BATHROBE CLUB is an odd-couple story about fame, friendship, guilt, beleaguered hope, the possibility of redemption, and—just maybe—love.

George Segal called THE BATHROBE CLUB “The best actor’s play I’ve read in years and years” and Jay McInerney said, “It is brilliant—outrageous, clever, and dark in just the right way.”

The play recently had a table reading at an Off-Broadway theatre in New York; the City Rep reading is in hope of finding full production here in Oklahoma City, also.
