Interactive Immersion in Performing and Visual Arts in “Those Who Lie Beyond”

Ashley J. Mandanas , cast member of “Those Who Lie Beyond”

Ronn Burton, founder of 19th Century Hound, opens their first show in Oklahoma City.  “Those Who Lie Beyond” is a fascinating theatrical journey.  The presentation style is a new form of theatre that is sweeping the country, and Oklahoma’s diverse theatrical community finds an exciting thrill in this brand-new genre.  The idea of immersive theatre is to remove the ‘fourth wall’ between stage and audience, combining the two spaces into one.  The audience becomes an integral part of the performance, sometimes as a participant,… Continue reading

This Veterans Day Join OCCC and CityRep Presenting Stephen Lang in “BEYOND GLORY”

Stephen Lang in “Beyond Glory”

In days of old our heroes were warriors, King Arthur, Winston Churchill, General George Patton…the heroes of our fathers and ourselves.  But nowadays our heroes are often movie stars, Robert Shaw, Robert Redford, Robert Hardy, Katharine Hepburn and Stephen Lang.  Stephen Lang, now there is a hero movie star, and he has let us know his heroes.  The Medal of Honor Recipients he portrays in “Beyond Glory” must be his heroes.  Larry Smith’s book “Beyond Glory” contains the personal stories of 23 Medal of Honor Recipients in… Continue reading

Oklahoma City University Presents an Excellent “Julius Cæsar”

Oklahoma City University is presenting “Julius Caesar” a historical tragedy by William Shakespeare.  This production has been adapted by D. Lance Marsh, who directs “Julius Caesar” with a student cast of exceptional actors.  “Julius Caesar” is different in many ways from typical Shakespeare as it lacks the contrived confusion we have come to know in his romances and comedies. The language is pure Shakespeare, of course, but very crisp and the action is quite straightforward. “Julius Caesar” is the most often quoted of Shakespearean plays, as it is so full of excellent ‘sound bytes’ that can be relevant… Continue reading

Carpenter Square presents “Slasher” with a Dull Edge

Peter Fischaber as Marc Hunter directs a murderous scene in ‘Bloodbath’ with Jessica Biel as Sheena (last girl) being threated by Matthew Moreillon as Jodi Joshi.

“Slasher” is a hilariously camp spoof of popular slasher movies now turned to theatre. A young waitress in Austin, Texas, Sheena McKinney, is savvy—and her chance meeting with a movie director is the opportunity of her lifetime. Her mother, Frances, is disabled, bound to her wheelchair. She is also quite mad—a combination of insanity and raging feminism boil within her. The younger sister, Hildy, is just trying to pass chemistry. Sheena is offered the… Continue reading
